SCUT's Technologies Sparkle on Industry-University Decking Exhibition

A number of novel technologies developed by SCUT were spotlighted on an industry-university matchmaking exhibition held by Guangdong province on June 3, demonstrating the university’s strong impact on bridging scientific research and technology application.

The event was called the 2017 Guangdong High-level University Construction Promotion Conference and Industry-university-research Decking Conference, which was held in Foshan to promote collaboration between universities and enterprises.

Distinguished guests of the conference included Chen Yunxian, Member of the CPC Leading Group of the Guangdong Provincial Government, Jing Lihu, Director General of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, and Lu Yi, Secretary of the CPC Foshan Committee. Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, was also invited to attend the event.

At the exhibition area of SCUT, Chen Yunxian, accompanied by Zhang Xichun, watched demonstrations of a few high-tech products. One of them was an intelligent wheelchair that used brainwaves to control its move via the brain-computer interface (BCI).

Four key projects were agreed on site between SCUT and enterprises to carry out technology transfer. The efforts attracted attention from the major media such as Xinhua News and the People’s Daily.

SCUT and the Midea Group, in further steps of their pervious cooperation, reached an agreement to start a joint research center of microwave food, which will help Midea develop the intelligent microwave oven and recipes for steamed foods.

Another technology research center will be build by SCUT and Isun, a manufacturer of home appliances, to develop the next generation of intelligent healthy appliances such as the high-speed blender.

Other two projects signed up by SCUT involved a technology of dual-frequency base station antenna co-developed with Shenglu Telecommunication, which is expected to significantly bring down the size and cost of the antenna, and a coating product co-developed with Dopewin Powder, which is made of low-temperature solidified powder that can protect heat-sensitive materials.

These agreements were signed by representatives of SCUT’s faculties of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, Electronic and Information Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, and Physics and Optoelectronics. Heads of the Department of Development and Planning, and the Science and Technology Division, were also present.
