On May 14th. 2016, the closing ceremony of 2016 Short-term Chinese Training Program of Confucius Institute of Lancaster University was held at room 305, building 32, South China University of Technology. The presented guests are Ms. Pei Xiaorong, Mr.Zhang Lei from Confusion Institution of University of Lancaster, 19 students from University of Lancaster and Chinese volunteers attending this event. Mr. Ou Chenxi hosted the ceremony.
Ms. Pei Xiaorong was the first to address at the beginning of the ceremony. She said that this short-term program came to an end faster than she had expected and she hoped all students had learnt from it and made it an unforgettable memory. Mr. ZhangLei extended his gratitude to the Confusion Institute, University of Lancasterand School of International Education, SCUT for this cultural trip to China. He said that from Beijing to Guangzhou, everything would be a good memory kept in their minds. Next was the speech of the student representative Kazim Hassan. He said that after asking someone of them which part of the trip was the high light, he got different opinions from different person. Some of them thought that it was being guest in Chinese families, while some of them considered the course of Chinese traditional Art like Calligraphy and Papercutting the memorable part of the trip. And then on behalf of the students, Kazim extended his gratitude to the teachers and volunteers who had been very helpful during the trip. After speeches, certificates were presented to the students by Ms. Pei Xiaorong, and awards were given to outstanding volunteers by Mr. Zhang Lei.
At the end of the ceremony, six students presented a Kung Fu performance and Student David Stutt performed a song written by him. The ceremony was ended by taking a grouppictures.
The School of International Education, SCUT, attached great importance to this Chinese training program.The itinerary was carefully designed and the teachers are very experienced. This training program has given the students an opportunity to get a more profound understanding of China. It also served as a precursor to the future cooperation between SCUT and the University of Lancaster.
