In September the School of International Education ushered in a new batch of students from all over the world to study at SCUT. In order to help new students, adapt to the school life and better understand the rules and regulations of the university, the teachers from the academic affairs office organized the “enrollment education for freshman” on September 8th to 11th, for the professional learning and the using of the educational system, which included a series of preschool instructions and interchange activities for the new students.
For the many kinds of students attending the university, such as Bachelor of Arts in Chinese as a Foreign Language undergraduates, Journalism and Communication students (Chinese Teaching and communication Included), Postgraduate students, students majoring in English, and Undergraduates, we had different orientation events. The orientation events mainly revolved around the theme of rules and regulations, psychological preparation and environmental adaptation, etc. For example, we held the meeting for freshmen whose major are journalism and communication (Chinese Teaching and communication Included) in 2015. At the meeting, we not only provided them with a professional training guide but also gave them a detailed introduction into how to develop the training plan and choose their mentor in the first semester. At the same time, in order to help freshmen, know their tutor more intuitively, we invited other students whose tutors are in our college to participate in the conference. We narrated the teachers’ daily life and professional study process from the point of views of students. Aiming at the undergraduate students who need to study a variety of majors in scattered distribution across campus, we gave a detailed explanation for the students on the aspects of general situation of SIE. This covered professional study responsibility of SIE, the campus distribution of SIE, the school daily management regulations, academic study, process for leaving, transferring, retirement and suspension of schooling and the use direction of educational management system.
In addition, we also invited outstanding students to share their learning experience and methods in order to encourage freshmen to adapt to campus life quickly. All students listened carefully to the details about study. They put forward questions and communicated with each other after the meeting to prepare for the new term. After the meeting, the freshmen sent the teachers and senior sister apprentice WeChat friend requests to get more knowledge about other related majors.
