20th May, University of Lancaster Confucius Institute held the opening ceremony for Confucius classes at Anchorsholme Academy. University of Lancaster vice president of internal affairs Professor Steve Bradley, Pan Jun, Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Manchester, the mayor of Blackpool, cooperation representative from South China University of Technology Deputy Dean Professor Liu Cheng, and 4 other people, foreign president of University of Lancaster Confucius Institute, representative from London department of education Anchorsholme Academy primary and middle school, person in charge in the Blackpool City Chinese Association, Anchorsholme Academy primary school principal Graeme Dow and school teachers and more than 150 people attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was held in the primary school conference hall of Anchorsholme Academy, Anchorsholme Primary School Principal Graeme Dow hosted the opening ceremony.

In order to show the guests the ability of the Confucius Institute of their Chinese Language and culture promotion, Confucius Institute and Confucius class teachers and students presented a wonderful program of literature and art. Headmaster Dow served as a chorus conductor, more than 20 kindergarten children sung and danced, sung the Chinese songs "two tigers" and "hello", with clear articulation and a mellow and full tune. Primary school choir sang "Jasmine", "nostalgia" clearly and full of emotion. Confucius Institute Teachers and primary school students performed Chinese fashion show, played “guzheng”, and gave the participants a deep impression.

Vice President of University of Lancaster Steve Bradley said in his statement, the establishment of Confucius Institute Class in Anchorsholme Academy further determine the responsibility of the University of Lancaster and the Confucius Institute for the local community service. The classroom will be better for local children through language teaching and culture courses, and for students and parents to build a platform for understanding China.

The primary school specially set up a classroom for Confucius Institute, nearly a thousand Chinese books, nearly two years of Chinese classes’ pictures and students’ works are on display. Headmaster Graeme Dow, vice president Pan Jun, the mayor of Blackpool, and Deputy Dean Liu Cheng cuts a ribbon for the special classroom. The opening activities are also caught the attention of the local media, reporters came to shoot and report on the activities.

Since 2012, Anchorsholme Academy has been University of Lancaster Confucius institute’s teaching points. 17th November 2014, approved by the headquarters of Confucius Institute, they upgraded Confucius classes. On January this year, University of Lancaster Confucius Institute in a full-time teacher responsible for the teaching of the Confucius Classes. On April, Chinese language and Chinese culture courses are offered in all of the classes within the whole school, also taking into account the two primary schools (Waterloo primary school and Haw primary school) Chinese language courses, the total number of students in nearly 900 people.

Anchorsholme primary school Confucius classroom is located on the Northwest England, in the city of Blackpool which is famous for its tourism. The population here is relatively dense, honest and are willing to understand the cultures from the far west. The establishment of the classroom is expected to extend the Chinese teaching and cultural promotion to the surrounding community effectively.
