27th March, University of Lancaster Confucius Institute short term Chinese language training program opening ceremony was held in the conference room of our university town branch B1 314. Our university dean Anran, deputy dean Liu Cheng, University of Lancaster Confucius Institute lead by teacher Liu Jingping and 16 members attended the opening ceremony. The ministry of education, department of international cooperation and exchange deputy commissioner Mao Dongmin attended as a special guest to the opening ceremony, some Chinese teachers, administrative personnel and Chinese students volunteer attended this ceremony. The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Zhao Lu.
Dean An Ran said in her speech, the core concept of the Chinese short-term training group is the "experience", not just learning the language knowledge. The students will experience different food, weather and culture in Guangzhou, hope to inspire students to understand China, learning Chinese interest. The mission of this Chinese training group, no matter Chinese curriculum or social practice, will embody the "learning to do, learning by doing" concept and the Guangdong region cultural features.
In his speech, Deputy Director Mao Dongmin shared about his experience when he studied in England. She said, "you really have to understand the culture of the country, and then you can adjust with the culture, including the taste of the air, all will make you fall in love with the place." She encouraged the group to use this short term training program opportunity to comprehensively feel Guangzhou and to understand Guangzhou’s culture. In his speech, Mr. Lu Jingping expressed appreciation for the spirit of unity and cooperation among the members in the previous trip to Beijing. And hope that the students will continue to painstakingly feel the different culture of south of the Five Ridges culture. A student representative GeorginaKwok Ngar Chan expressed her thanks to SCUT’s teachers and volunteers for the warm welcome, and hopes to learn more Chinese history and culture in the course of these days.
In order to train members for school loyalty, sense of gratitude and sense of belonging, at the ceremony, Dean Anran and Deputy Dean Mao dongmin put on one by one Chinese laborer badges for the 16 members. SCUT international students Zhong Xiangyi and Li Li also brought wonderful singing and dancing performance for the study group.
This short term Chinese language training program was held for 11 days, the study group that came from University of Lancaster visited Beijing for 4 days, and then they go to Guangzhou for language and culture learning and other practical activities. The short term group will further promote the in-depth cooperation between University of Lancaster and our school, to strengthen the communication and exchange of Chinese and English culture.
