Prof. WU Yinghui, dean of Graduate School of Minzu University of China, was appointed as Distinguished Professor by our school and offered two lectures to more than 200 audiences on May, 4th, 2015. Prof. AN Ran and Prof. LIU Chen hosted the lectures.

The first lecture was about "New horizons and Models for Communication of Chinese in Global World". Prof. WU separated "teaching Chinese as a second language in mainland" from "communication of Chinese in abroad". In his opinion, communication of Chinese in present day was mainly focused on micro issues but lacked middle or macro-studies. That was why he introduced Macro-System Analysis Method and Global Perspective Comparison Method into this area, and listed out ten possible topics under the general term, such as the strategies of Chinese communication and studies on localization.

The second lecture was about "American Immersion Education on Chinese". Immersion Education on a certain language is to teach the target language by using it. It is purposed to help students learning more knowledge rather than only the language. Prof. WU pointed out that Immersion Education was "an interaction of language and knowledge" and aimed to training bilinguals with equal fluency in both languages. Hence, Immersion Education is a better method for further English teaching in China and teaching Chinese to ethnic minorities.

Between the lectures, Prof. WU also shared his experiences on how to apply research grants. He thought a successful topic should come from and serve back teaching practices. It was necessary to have studies on both individual cases and general rules. For grant application, four key points were crucial: a suitable topic, a primary study, an united team and a solid verification.
